At The Foot Of Mount Kenya

The River Camp sits in the Laikipia region of central Kenya, on the banks of the Ngobit River, with Mount Kenya rising on the horizon. Inside Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the camp is set within ninety thousand acres of protected wilderness, home to the largest rhino population in East Africa. The setting is remote and intimate. Six ensuite guest tents and two deluxe suites accommodate a maximum of twenty guests at a time. The pool, spa, and main dining area are spread across the grounds, each with its own outlook. The Aberdares lie to one side, Mt Kenya to the other, the river running through it all.

A Private Retreat

The tents at The River Camp are set along the bank of the Ngobit, each looking out over the river from its own private deck. Inside, every tent has king or twin bed configurations, an ensuite bathroom, a lounge and dressing area, and the distinctive feature that defines the camp: an outdoor shower set toward the river, where guests can bathe with the bush opening out beyond. Yoga mats and blocks are provided. The interiors are warm and well-appointed, with the river never quite out of sight or sound.

A Place Of Refuge

Ol Pejeta Conservancy holds the largest rhino population in East Africa, with both black and southern white rhinos roaming the ninety thousand acres of protected land that The River Camp sits within. At the heart of the conservancy live Najin and Fatu, the last two northern white rhinos on earth. A mother and daughter, they are the sole surviving members of their subspecies, watched over around the clock by a dedicated team that protects them from poaching and monitors their health. Guests at The River Camp can visit them up close. It is a rare encounter, and one that carries the weight of what conservation means: the progress that has been made, and the fragility that remains.
